Accoustix's Halloween Competition - Winners!

Did I say winners would be announced next week? I meant within the next week… >u>
HERE ARE THE WINNERS OF ACCOUSTIX'S HALLOWEEN COMPETITION, 2009!

VISUAL ART WINNERS

First place

Happy Halloween 2009 by *CherryOrange

What's not to love about this piece? The mood, the colours, the lighting, the silhouettes, the PUMPKINS and that adorable little witch and her sparkler wand really capture the essence of Halloween. It's deceptively simple with it's block shapes and bright and dark colours, but the little details really make the piece; the skulls on the witch's costume, the expressions of the pumpkins and that sparkly, sparkly night sky. The character style is sweet and her pose is lovely. There's such a feeling of magic and mischief in this and all three judges gave it first place. Congratulations, *CherryOrange!

RUNNER UP

nine lives is not enough by ~Madame-Origami

This was yet another standout piece amongst the entries. It has a beautifully detailed background that sets the mood and perspective, and that gorgeous, horrifying character is impressively made with traditional media - the skin looks like you could reach out and touch it. The artist's comments on this piece tell quite a story. My favourite part: the character changes its those patches weekly due to "bodily seepage". Delicious. If I were undead, I hope I could be as cool as this lady. Well done to ~Madame-Origami!

WRITING WINNERS

First Place

Pick Your Poison by ~laer5

A last minute entry, but it seems that the extra time obviously paid off for ~laer5. This is a well crafted little story and it really stood out amongst the entries that were dominated by poetry. There's a lot of things to like about this piece; vampires, the colour gold, the shadow of fear and the oh so descriptive carving of the pumpkins in the final paragraphs. "Stay gold."

Runner up

Jack Jack.. Jack..Scene 1 by ~shannylm

I wasn't originally planning to have a runner up for the writing section, but I was having such a hard time deciding between these two entries that I really thought this deserved a mention. The first scene of a musical, Jack Jack…Jack by ~shannylm is an incredibly innovative set of lyrics, with plenty of gruesome adjectives and graphic imagery. It's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" gone wrong. If you're a fan of horror writing, this is for you.
Shan - I won't be able to give you a monetary prize, unfortunately, but you can most definitely request some art from me if you want. xo

Other Entries

Take one last look at them, my pretties, and be sure to visit a few pages and leave comments!! Sometimes that's a reward in itself.

All Hallows Eve by ~MisFirefly

Halloween contest by *Junk-Romantic

Ayatsuri by ~Xanryu

Dance by ~xxa-nobodyxx

This was pretty damn hard to judge. There are so many entries that I would love to give prizes for - hell, I want to give prizes for all of them! - but unfortunately I do not have the time or money to do so.

Thanks so much to everyone who entered! This has been a great experience for me and I hope you all enjoyed looking at the entries as much as I did.

Congratulations again to the prize winners, they are well deserved! Be sure to note me with your requests for the prize art. I'm still in the process of organising the deviantDOLLARS/subscriptions, so please be patient. (Same applies with the prize art ... you don't want something rushed and sketchy, right? ;> )

Sleep well. Halloween's over.

:iconmisfirefly:
this is gonna seem like a random question but i've been thinking about it for a long time. keiko needs a western name. i mean shes already got heaps of names from when she travels but her first western name, would be one that she identifies with almost as much as with the name keiko.
you know what i mean? have you any ideas?
i'm really fussy with name picking, i like better when the names come to me! it wouldn't be to unusual but not too common either, so not Anna, or Kate. do you get me?

:iconaccoustix:
I think so. Keiko... how about.... D| I don't know. I'll think about it, but I'm the same as you, prefer them to come to me.
